Replacement of Culinary Water TanksPayson City’s two above ground steel water tanks were over pressured and damaged due to a failure of the water tank level monitoring equipment. Rather than repair the damaged tanks, the City Council has decided to replace the tanks with underground concrete tanks. The existing tanks are fed primarily from springs located in Payson Canyon. They also have the capability of receiving water from the City’s underground wells via the water distribution line coming out of the tanks. The current tanks can hold up to 4.5 million gallons of water combined. Once the construction of the new takes is complete the combined capacity will be 5 million gallons of water. This project is being funded by a loan from the Utah State Division of Drinking Water as well as monies received from the insurance coverage of the tanks. This project is scheduled to be completed early 2013.
